Samsung VLUU WB500 opening

This is the new Samsung WB500. Before an official review, I’d like to introduce it with a simple introduction. Because it’s a sample package for test, it might be different from an official one. I’ve got things unsatisfied with the NV100HD and NV9, and those were improved with the WB500. Let’s take a look at the simple package.

Since the box was really small, I think it only has a body, but when opening it, there were basic parts safely. WB500, battery, charge cable, adaptor, another part, and instruction manual. They were all packed, but I repacked them, so it’s a little different from the original package.
When looking at the WB500 without knowing the specification, I liked its neat and thick appearance. No matter how the portability is the advantage of a compact digital camera, there are lots of cameras which don’t care of the grip, so I was worried when opening it. But the suitable thickness and better grip were very good.

In the black bag, there were instruction manual and warranty for the WB500. One battery was included. The capacity of the battery is 1050mAh, and it’s enough to take pictures outside. AV cable is included, so users can easily watch videos and picture on TV and other big monitors.

Like other Samsung digital cameras, AC adaptor and USB cable are separate, so when charging, you connect them and use. The Adaptor and USB cable can be usefully used. The screen is charging by connecting USB cable to portable battery pack. When taking a trip, or picture outside, you can charge it with the battery pack, so compared to other big adaptors, it’s very useful.

The appearance and performance of the WB500 will be discussed on the official review. Generally, it gives high end feeling with good grip and combination of black and silver. Metal body and big lens at the front are impressive. Personally, I like thick and better grip products like the WB500 rather than the slim body of the NV100HD and NV9, so I want to give higher score to the WB500 for the appearance.Various functions of the WB500 such as optical 10x zoom, video recording function as good as the NV100HD, etc. will be covered on the official review later.

Samsung’s New Camera Goes Wide

Most camera trackers have been watching the focal length of lenses expand (Olympus just announced a 26x zoom) but Samsung is looking the other way with its new compact HZ10W, which has a 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens.

The 24mm Schneider lens goes wider than other lenses, which typically stop at 28mm. And that means you can take better group shots and landscapes. Or make your apartment look bigger if you’re trying to sell it.

The $300 10.2-megapixel HZ10W also zooms out to 10x (that’s 240mm, in 35mm film equivalent). For stability at maximum zoom, Samsung includes both optical and digital image stabilization. The optical image stabilization can also be used when shooting high-definition video (720p at 30 frames per second).

The HZ10W offers a good range of manual controls, including shutter speed and aperture settings. It also includes face-detection technology and Samsung’s Beauty Shot, which the company says enhances skin tone and removes blemishes.

The camera’s basic specs are what you’d expect from a high-end point-and-shooter. It’s the 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens that sets the HZ10W apart.

New Samsung Camcorder HMX-H106 with 64GB SSD

Samsung Announces First SSD Camcorder

las vegas—on wednesday, samsung unveiled five high-definition camcorders; three of them are the world's first to use internal solid-state drives (ssds), according to the company.
all of the new "h-series" camcorders will capture 1080i video and will only vary in their ssd capacities, which will include 16-, 32-, and 64-gbytes worth of data at the highest-quality video settings. an ergonomic hd 1080i video camcorder was also announced.
digital camcorders that offer storage capacities as high as 32 and 64 gb's typically rely on internal hard disk drives. samsung's ssds, however, will add a few key improvements: a lack of moving parts, so they can consume about an eighth of the power of a rotating drive, plus additional resistance to mechanical failure. ssds are also faster, they boot up quicker and write/read data faster so the overall camcorder operation can be faster. ssds can also be made smaller than a physical drive, so they can offer large amounts of storage in smaller-sized camcorders.
the h-series camcorders will all have 2.7-inch touchscreen lcds, built-in hdmi out, optical image stabilization, 10x optical zoom and can also record video/images to a sd/sdhc memory card. the hmx-106 will have 64 gbs of internal ssd storage; the hmx-105 will have 32, and the hmx-104 will have 16. a fourth camcorder with identical specifications will be included in the h-series, the hmx -h100, but it will not have an ssd, recording to an sd/sdhc memory card only. all of the camcorders will be available in march, except for the h106, which will be slated for april. pricing on all the camcorders has not yet been announced.
samsung's fifth hd 1080i camcorder, the hmx-r10, will be focused on ergonomics. the camcorder will be able to be held in what samsung describes as a "more relaxed grip…reducing the stress on the wrist."
this ergonomic build is due to the fact that the lens is mounted onto the camera at a 25 degree angle the r10 will feature a 2.7-inch lcd touchscreen, a 5x optical zoom and will write video and pictures to an sd/shc memory card only. the r10 will be available this summer; pricing has not yet been announced.
samsung also announced a standard-definition video camera, the smx-f34. this camcorder will write widescreen sd video (720 x 480) to 16 gb of internal flash memory or an external sd/sdhc memory card. its specs include a 2.7-inch lcd screen, 34x optical zoom, plus a "web & mobile" mode that produces smaller-sized video files for faster uploading to video-sharing sites. the f34 will be available this spring in four colors, black, red, silver and blue; pricing was not announced.

Samsung unveils 1080p SSD cams with OIS improvement

Samsung has unveiled its latest series of Full HD camcorders which offer a major improvement in optical image stabilisation, according to Dvice. As camcorders are very prone to hand shake when filming by hand, image stabilisation plays a very big part in reducing erratic motion during playback. Many camcorders resort to the inferior digital image stabilisation, which does not reduce blurriness while moving the camera.
Another improvement is the use of solid state drives of up to 64GB. According to Samsung, its SSD uses 1/8th the power of a similar 2.5" HDD during read/write operations, which in turn provides longer runtime on batteries. Just like in laptops, SSDs are resistant to shock and vibrations. For example, if a HDD based camcorder gets a bad knock or is dropped while filming, the user may lose all the footage contained on the drive. With an SSD, there is a much higher chance of recovering the data from the SSD even if the camera is badly damaged. Other improvements with the SSD include faster start up, lower heat emission and faster response.
The camcorders use a Schneider 10x zoom lens with a 37mm wide-angle focal length, which gives a wider angle of view compared with other camcorders typically with 40mm to 50mm focal lengths on their widest angle. For photo taking, they feature a built-in flash strobe and can capture 4.7 Megapixel still images and photos can also be taken in time lapse intervals of between 1 and 30 seconds. Its 2.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor measures 1/4.5" across. The touch screen LCD screen swivels and measures 2.7". For playback, the series feature standard HDMI connections, which do not require a docking cradle or a proprietary cable.
The camcorders are available in 3 capacities: 64GB for the HMX-106, 32GB for the HMX105 and 16GB for the HMX-H104. They offer 12, 6 and 3 hours of Full-HD recording capacity using the H.264 codec respectively. All feature SD/SDHC memory card slots for additional recording capacity and for storing still iages. The 4th model, the HMX H100 has the same features as the other three, but does not have an SSD. So far no pricing information has been announced.

Samsung to launch Wi-Fi-enabled camera

The modified i8 with Wi-Fi function. (Credit: Leonard Goh/CNET Asia)
While there are only a few new digital cameras seen at CES this year, Sony has undoubtedly stolen the spotlight with its Cyber-shot DSC-G3, a point-and-shoot with wireless networking capability and HTML browser. However, the G3 isn't the only Wi-Fi-enabled shooter seen at the tradeshow. At Samsung's booth, we spotted the a modified version of the i8. The unnamed camera comes with wireless LAN function for uploading images to the Web. Within the menu, we saw options for sending pictures to Flickr and Picassa, two popular online photo servers. The shooter will probably be the successor to the i8, a compact camera with multimedia function. We tried using the camera to send images to Samsung's designated server, and found the process to be fuss-free.However, the company cannot confirm at press time if the new Wi-Fi-enabled i8 camera will have a Web browser, though it did mention it will launch this digicam some time between June and September this year.

Samsung HMX-H106 camcorder

Samsung Electronics America extended its family of full-HD digital camcorders with four new models - the HMX-H106, HMX-H105, HMX-H104, and HMX-H100. Samsung’s new H-Series offer users high-performance, full HD video, a renowned Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens with Optical Image Stabilization, and industry leading design; however, most notable is the use of internal Solid State Drives to provide onboard memory. The Samsung HMX-H106 is Samsung’s new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, the world’s first to feature an internal 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD). Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder.

Samsung SSD technology
In comparison to HDD, Samsung’s SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability. No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations, which pose a considerable threat to the performance of HDD based digital camcorders. Additionally, Samsung’s SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds which is required for the amount of data recorded in full-HD resolution. When actively reading and writing data, Samsung’s SSD technology consumes approximately 1/8th of the power of a comparable HDD.

Samsung SSD video memory
The Samsung HMX-H105 and Samsung HMX-H104 offer 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively, and like the Samsung HMX-H106, also allow consumers to expand memory capacity using an SD/SDHC memory card. The Samsung HMX H100 does not feature an internal SSD and requires the use of a SD/SDHC memory card. The new H-Series full-HD digital camcorders also utilize H.264 compression, which significantly increases recording time. At full-HD resolution and when set to fine mode, users can record up to three hours directly to the 16GB Samsung HMX-H104, six hours to the 32GB Samsung HMX H105, and an unparalleled 12 hours to the 64GB Samsung HMX-H106.

Samsung HMX-H106 with 10x optical zoom

Producing a high-quality image starts at the lens, which is highly regarded as one of the most important components of a camcorder. Precision optics are paramount in helping produce inspiring video and Samsung’s H-Series camcorders underscore this assessment by incorporating world renowned Schneider optics. The camcorders’ Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens features a 10x optical zoom and is paired with Samsung’s new Optical Image Stabilizer to help reduce the blur found in footage as a result of vibrations and hand shake.

Samsung HMX-H105 features a Schneider lens
The Schneider lens also features a 37mm wide-angle focal length. Unlike other camcorders offering a typical angle of view of 40~50mm, the H-Series’ 37mm wide-angle Schneider lens allows users to fit more of their desired scene into the frame, making the camcorder ideal for recording large groups of family or friends, breathtaking landscapes or even capturing all the action at sporting events. The trusted Schneider lens also helps capture remarkably clear and sharp video with accurate color reproduction. The H-Series’ direct HDMI connections allow consumers to effortlessly enjoy their full-HD content on their HDTV without the need for proprietary docking cradles. Consumers can also utilize the camcorders to take more than just stunning high definition video, as each offers a built-in strobe flash and the ability to capture 4.7 mega-pixel digital still photos.

Samsung HMX-H104 high definition camcorder
“This new series of high-definition digital camcorders clearly speaks to Samsung’s commitment to providing today’s consumers with the most advanced and highest performing digital imaging technology,” said Tony Sorice, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Digital Imaging at Samsung Electronics America. “Our ability to leverage the synergies that exist across our various businesses in the design and manufacture of digital camcorders and cameras, allows us to better meet customer demands and bring higher-performing digital imaging solutions to market faster and more efficiently.”

Samsung HMX-H100 equipped with a 2.7" LCD
At the heart of Samsung’s new H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders is a high performance CMOS imaging sensor. Measuring 1/4.5 inches, the CMOS sensor boasts 2.2 mega-pixels and yields impressive light sensitivity helping enhance the overall imaging experience for the end-user. The camcorders also offer a large 2.7 inch touch screen LCD, which serves as the gateway to the camcorders’ comprehensive suite of features. The swiveling LCD also gives users access to key camcorder controls, including record and zoom. When utilized in conjunction with Samsung’s proprietary swivel grip, the additional placement of controls on the LCD screens allow users to effortlessly control the camcorder at low or high angles.

Samsung H106 HD camcorder with Time Lapse recording mode
The Samsung camcorders also feature a HD Time Lapse recording mode that will give consumers the ability to experiment with their creativity. When shooting in the Time Lapse recording mode, the camcorder will record a single image at an interval pre-selected by the user, either 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30 seconds, and will save each image as one single movie file.

Samsung HMX-H106, HMX-H105, HMX-H104, & HMX-H100 Full HD Camcorders

Samsung is to extend its HD camcorder line-up with four new models, the Samsung H Series HMX-H106, HMX-H105, HMX-H104, and the HMX-H100, all of which sport Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lenses with optical image stabilization , offer full HD video capture and, in terms of Samsung’s new flagship HD camcorder, the HMX-H106, comes with integrated 64GB Solid State Drive.

The HMX-H106, Samsung’s new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, is the world’s first to feature an internal 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD). Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory.

The HMX-H105 and HMX-H104 offer 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively, and like the HMX-H106, also allow consumers to expand memory capacity using an SD/SDHC memory card. The HMX H100 does not feature an internal SSD and requires the use of a SD/SDHC memory card.

The new H-Series full-HD digital camcorders also utilize H.264 compression, which significantly increases recording time. At full-HD resolution and when set to fine mode, users can record up to three hours directly to the 16GB HMX-H104, six hours to the 32GB HMX H105, and an unparalleled 12 hours to the 64GB HMX-H106.

The camcorders also feature a HD Time Lapse recording mode that will give consumers the ability to experiment with their creativity. When shooting in the Time Lapse recording mode, the camcorder will record a single image at an interval pre-selected by the user, either 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30 seconds, and will save each image as one single movie file.

Samsung are yet to offer pricing details but have confirmed that the flagship H106 camcorder will become available in April whilst the H105, H104 and the H100 camcorders are set to begin shipping as of March

Samsung HMX-H106 First Camcorder With 64GB SSD, Looks Like a Thermos

Samsung's HMX-H106 camcorder's claim to fame is that it's the first camcorder with a built-in 64GB SSD. But its smoother-than-usual lines make it look like a Thermos I could pour thirst-quenching fruit punch in.

It, along with its 32GB and 16GB brothers, the H105 and H104, respectively, have a 10x zoom lens with optical stabilization and storage expansion via SDHC card slot. They all shoot with H.264 compression, giving you 12 hours of "full HD" footage on the 64GB H106, and six on the H105, and so on. No word on pricing, but you can buy the H106 in April.
