Tommy&Tiky:FAQ – Tripod ‘exclusively tailored’ to camcorders
Hello, it’s Tiky again!
I have an exclusive news for you guys. I’ve reviewed a tripod for camcorder before. Remember that? It was about 8months ago. Title with “Camcorder with an unique active angle lens tripod” , check this article again! Now I have another tips for you. The thing I’d like to tell you guys is we have a tripod exclusively tailored to camcorders like HMX-S16! Let’s find out how this wonderful tool works and helps you ulimately.
Just like a camera, camcorders come with different handy accessories. However, only a limited number of camcorders can use accessories such as microphone. Samsung recently launched a high-end camcorder called HMX-S16, to which a wide variety of accessories can be attached. On top, HMX-S16 has an accessory shoe to connect to accessories. Then, let’s take a look at accessories that will be very usefully in filming way better quality video.
Tripod ‘exclusively tailored’ to camcorders
One of the most frequently committed errors of camcorder users is to use the tripod for cameras that you already have. Or, even worse, buying a tripod for camera to use for camcorder, failing to acknowledge the difference between the two! Having totally different purposes of recording snap shot vs. movement, the tripods for the two have fundamentally different shape.
Tripod head for camcorder (video camera)
What you see here is the typical head of tripods for video cameras. At a quick glance, you might not be able to tell the difference, but how they work is totally different. With the tripod for camera, the head is fixed and remains fixed at the desired location. However, for camcorder tripod, the head holds still even if you don’t fix it strongly. You can also turn the camcorder around sideways without shaking.
Meanwhile, as cameras record stand-still images, the head is fixed at the desired location, not tolerating an inch of movement. Even if you were to place a camcorder on top and tighten it to the middle, you are bound to have blurry images if you move it up and down.
Now, let’s take a look at what this means in real life.

So, anyone thinking “That is why my image was so shaky!” rather than “I didn’t know camcorder tripods are so stable!”? If you surf the web or browse shops, you can easily find that such information is not clearly delivered to the customer. For a non-expert, it’s difficult to be aware of such information. If you have ever had trouble using a tripod, check if the tripod is fit for the purpose first. If not, I strongly recommend that you get a dedicated tripod for the best results!

Tommy & Tiky : FAQ - What is the difference between C10 and C14?
We have prepared a FAQ section for questions that we often get concerning Samsungimaging products.
This section aims to help to solve questions users might have when using Samsung Camera and Camcorder and also provide information on product features to enable users to spend effectively.

Many users including Jge*** have asked the question on the difference between camcorders SMX-C10 and
SMX-C14
.
Don’t’ they look identical!!!!!!!
Major difference is the embedded memory.
While C10 doesn’t have embedded memory, C14 supports embedded memory of 16GB. For C14, you can also use SD/SDHC card to add more memory. Still cut shots are possible with C14, but you cannot with C10. Other than that, all other specs are the same.
You can obtain high resolution image with 30fps 640*480 for SD-VGA and 50fps 720*576 for Sd-D1. They both support H.264HP/MP4 files (except for HD) and support time-lapse recording and Youtube direct upload function.

Winner of ‘Observeur du Design Award’, Samsung C10!
On October 22nd, APCI(Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Creation) proceeded ‘Observeur du Design Award’ in Paris, France.
APCI is the group that France government built in 1983 for industry and culture of France. Purpose of this group is promoting French design in France and abroad. They also work for design schools and agencies in France to develope their design skills.
APCI holds ‘Observeur du Design Award’ every year to award to the most innovative designed product. And guess what? Samsung SMX-C10 camcorder won the 1st prize out of 1500 competitive products this year!
SMX-C10 camcorder was rewarded for strong brand visibility and contributing to educate the general public on design.
APCI also processed competition for ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) label from June. 15 Samsung products received this label so they are now going to be displayed at the Cité des Sciences & de l’Industrie for 3 months, from October 2009 to February 2010.

Samsung receives the “Good Design Award 2009” for 4 devices!
We’re proud to announce that, the Japan Industrial Promotion Organization, also known as JIDPO, awarded four of our products with the world’s renown “Good Design Award 2009“, for outstanding product design.
The “Good Design Award 2009”, whose system is based on the belied that good design is essential to everyday life of the people. Further, shall it give people prosperous lives the eminent power of good designs.
Yearly, more than 1,000 companies submit their products, in order to receive this award. The winners are, then, selected by a pool of members from various industries, who’d been appointed by JIDPO.
Until this very day, this award is only given to products which are believed to bless and enrich society and people’s lives through its design.

SMX-C14 makes shots in various angles easy
Recently, most of the people have experience to take pictures, and have a camera. People who have cameras push the shutter to remember the precious moment. After pushing the shutter, they could take the image, but not the sound, so that wasn’t satisfactory. That’s why many people want to have a camera which can record a video or a camcorder recently.
In the past, camcorders were expensive, but now it’s different. The price is getting lower and the functions have been developed a lot. The trend of camcorders is to have a built-in camera function, and now the difference between cameras and camcorders went away, but that doesn’t mean there’s no difference between them.
Then, which camcorder does have the recent trend? There are a lot of camcorders having low price and camera function, and among them, the Samsung SMX-C14 provides good design and reliable service. Let’s take a look at the SMX-C14.
The color of box is combination of black and white, and on the front, the product image is printed. The size is 17×13x6.5cm.
The Samsung SMX-C14 is small and compact. It looks like a circular pebble and has curved line between surfaces. The color is high glossy black emphasizing the high grade. The color is divided into 3 colors. The main color is red gradation and the motive comes from the Bordo TV.
The design is satisfactory, but it leaves fingerprints due to high glossy coating, and dusts are easily attached. Also small scratches might be left unless very fine material is used when cleaning.
The product is compact size, fits a small hand of women, and the grip is a little bit inconvenient. The finger holding the LCD is a bit inconvenient.
The lens is tilted to 25 degree, so it makes shots in various angles easy and reduces fatigue on the wrist. However, when recording putting the camcorder on a table, it records not the straight scene, but the scene 25 degree upside, so it’s a little inconvenient. For example, users who record using a material around in a dark place feel more inconvenience than before.

The size is 114×38.5×56.5mm.
The lens part is a small finger size, 10x zoom, 24mm wide angle, and f1.8-2.4 lens.
External buttons consists of 3 buttons, and from the top, zoom control lever, shot button, and recording buttons are located. When gripping, each button can be controlled by thumb for recording button, index for shot button, and middle finger for zoom lever.
The LCD is 2.7 inch and 3 buttons are located on the left. When recording, you can make various shot setting by holding the LCD with a left hand, adjusting the LCD angle, and controlling the menu button and 4 way button. The 4 way button is also used as OK button.
The red button on the lower side is a recording button and can be used as an alternative button of recording button on the right side. You may say 2 recording buttons are not necessary, but when operating, the right hand mainly controls the zoom lever, so sometimes they miss important moments. Also, for those who have short thumbs, the left recording buttons is more convenient.
Inside buttons consist of 5 buttons. The more frequently used power button is located very inside to reduce miss operation. The most remarkable buttons of this product is Youtube and easy Q button. The Youtube button allows you to connect the YouTube directly, and the Easy Q allows you quick recording by the quick setting. The USB connection part is covered with the rubber cap to be protected from external dusts.
The cover on the back opens up by pushing it like a car trunk. On the top, battery part is located, so pushing the battery, it’s fixed by the fixing device. Pulling down the fixing device, the battery comes up. Below, the SD card part is located, and it can share the storage with the internal memory, so it’s good to store a lot of volume.
At the lower side, output and charge cable part are located. 2 types of charging are supported such as adaptor charge and USB charge. Therefore, when traveling, USB can solve everything.
On the side, strap part is located, and the strap is the same as cell phone ring.
On the bottom, there’s a tripod hole and microphone. I don’t like the position of the microphone. I feel the voice recording is not as good as other camcorders. It’s not just because of the location, but I’m not satisfied with this.
Using the lattice, you can get more exact composition. 2 type of lattice lines are supported, and users can select one of them.
The LCD quality is okay, but compared to 920K pixel of DSLR, it’s not good enough. There’s no problem in the viewing angle and light reflection.
Because of the small size, the portability is great, so you can carry this any time.

Interpolation?
When magnifying pictures, unlike a digital zoom which just increase the size, the interpolation calculates the surrounding colors and compensates the pixels, so compared with the digital zoom, it has much better quality.
