Samsung camera ST50 preview

Samsung s stylish ST50 has finally been delivered to my house. There are benefits of high- quality pictures in expensive cameras, but on the other hand, compact digital cameras have their own charm- portability. High portability means a variety pictures can be taken. Variety means you can get a chance to take more pictures with light and pleasant mind. In this respect, ST50 has good image quality and portability, plus refining design. So I d like to write this preview.

Opening the box!

The box was a lot smaller than I expected. So you can realize how slim it is even before you open the box. It is noticeable that it says Actual size on the right bottom.

On the left side of the bow, you can see the specifications of ST50. Please refer to the below for the detailed specifications.

Here are the compositions in the box.

Camera body – battery – adaptor and USB cable – strap – AV cable and installation CD, manual and warranty, etc, it s not so different from other regular cameras.

When connecting it to PC using USB cable, you don t need a separate driver. It is recognized as an exterior device, and it s charged at the same time.

If you connect the USB cable terminal to USB terminal in AC adaptor, it becomes AC adaptor.

Considering that it gets charged as long as it is connected with USB, I ve tried connecting the USB cable to PMP with USB hosting function, and checked that it is also charged. When you want to take more pictures but there s no extra battery, if you own a PMP with USB hosting function, it ll come in handy.

The look of ST50

ST50 has total 4 types of color. There are classical silver and black, and stylish blue and red targeting youngsters. You can check out each color at www.samsungcamera.co.kr. Now let s look at its appearance.

Left and right side of the camera. You can check its 16mm thickness, one of the main specifications.

You can see 2.7 inch LCD monitor, control and menu button.

Blue LED in POWER button and SMART button is impressive. SMART is a function that automatically sets up the right mode out of 11 scene modes for each situation. It s a convenient function since you don t need to operate any other button.

The battery part is very impressive. It is slimmer and smaller than regular cell phone batteries.

It has width of 4.2cm.

The thickness is about 4mm, which is very slim.

I compared it with a battery of cell phone which has a similar size as ST50. You can see that ST50 s battery is smaller.

The thickness is also about 1mm slimmer than the cell phone battery.

ST50 s battery and SD memory card are held at the bottom.

Comparing ST50 s look with others

We ve looked into ST50. The most noticeable part is that it is 16mm ultra-slim. So in order to have a specific idea of how slim 16mm is, let s compare ST50 with other products in similar sizes.

Firstly, it a comparison with Anycall Haptic phone. The width is about 2cm shorter than Haptic.

Now it s a comparison of LCD size. Haptic phone has 3.2 inch LCD while ST50 has 2.7 inch, which is smaller.

Now, let s compare the thickness of the two. Haptic phone is slimmer since there is nothing protruding from the body. So except the protruding lens part and the LCD monitor part of ST50, they have similar thicknesses. This is the size and LCD specifications of St50 and Haptic phone.

Now let s compare it with the size of normal card-type.

When you put it over the card, they have similar sizes.

I ve compared it to CF memory and SD memory.

I ve put it with two CF memories side by side.

You may figure its approximate thickness.

Lastly, I compared it with a CD case.
