Remember Ben Heine? The 27-year-old Belgian visual creator and Samsung imageloger is an impressive young artist heating up the internet world with his art project titled “Pencil Vs Camera,” which was created with the Samsung NX10.
Ben @ Appart Gallery’s Loft
We checked in with Ben asking him for the latest update on his work, exhibition, and interviews.
Interview for “TV Brussel” (Pencil Vs Camera!)
Ben has done an interview with “TV Brussel,” which was broadcasted on the 18th of February 2011. As seen in the video, Ben, in a matter of few minutes, quickly demonstrates how his “Pencil Vs Camera” pieces are executed. When he has an idea in mind, he draws the subject on a small piece of torn paper. He then inserts the drawing and takes photos with the Samsung NX10, which is then created into a new reality.
“Pencil Vs Camera” for “BBC Breakfast”
When he traveled to London last month, he came back with this piece– a special gift for the “BBC Breakfast” main presenters.
Pencil Vs Camera – 50
In his latest Pencil vs Camera series, ‘Pencil Vs Camera – 50’ is dedicated to all the victims of the recent Fukushima disaster in Japan. You can check out additional details from this piece from his Flickr.
Digital Circlism -Eminem
Most famously known for this Pencil vs Camera series, Ben is working on a couple of different projects as well. One of the projects is titled “Digital Circlism,” which is a modern artistic expression– a mix of Pop art and Pointillism. It is made with digital tools usually featuring celebrities made of thousands of flat circles on a black background.
Ben (Left) @ Affordable Art Fair
Ben is continuously participating in exhibitions. A selection of his creations was exhibited from February 25-28, 2011 at the Affordable Art Fair in Tour & Taxis, Brussels, Belgium where his works were presented by the Gallery Garden. Ben will also be participating in forthcoming AAF in London with “The Art Movement.”
He has shown us some amazing pieces last year and his works are still in progress. I am looking forward to seeing more of his creative vision in 2011!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ! A Rudolph with a camera takes on escalator and gives a kick to start the domino! This domino keeps going and at the end, there is a Christmas tree which is decorated with 100 cameras and camcorders.
Last Saturday, the Samsung imageloger’ s Exhibition was held at Samsung d’ light in Seoul. This second exhibition followed on the heels of the first successful exhibition held in June of this year.
Like the last exhibition, many people participated in everything from the opening ceremony to viewing Imagelogers’ photos to just enjoying the whole event. The second half of the Imageloger’s Photo Exhibition will be held from December 18, 2010 until January 15, 2011 in the gallery hall of the Samsung d’light.
As you may or may not already know, Imageloger is a combination of the words ‘image’ and ‘blogger’. It refers to a social relationship or space through which we share stories by way of images. The Imageloger is aimed to contribute to a better and happier world while sharing images under the title of “I am a good blogger.”
Introduction of the Imagelogers and the reports on their activities were made by Samsung’s staffs in charge of this event. Ten Imagelogers from China visited the opening ceremony and celebrated the photo exhibition. They also didn’t forget to mention their expectation of Samsung’s new camera which will make its debut sometime in the upcoming year.
We can’t forget the awards ceremony for the best Imagelogers. Samsung awarded plaques and additional prizes to four Imagelogers. They were surprised yet delighted at receiving the unexpected prizes. Also, Samsung held a lucky draw for the attendees by giving the Galaxy Tab and a Samsung camera.
While enjoying refreshments, attendees had time to appreciate 116 of the awesome pictures taken by the Imagelogers from 16 countries including those by Daniel Kulinski and Ben Heine.

Hello! Are you in Seoul right now? If you haven’t been to Seoul, please take time to read this post. You’ll be able to discover the quiet yet vibrant Seoul in the photos displayed below. If the opportunity allows, you may want to visit the exhibition.
The title of the exhibition is “VLUU in Seoul with WB1000”. The subtitle of the exhibition is “Becoming a professional photographer with VLUU”. To celebrate the release of Samsung digital camera WB1000, 10 professional photographers have taken on the role of mentors and 10 testers as mentees to catch the images of Seoul. Every picture was so great that it was hard to distinguish pictues that were taken by the professionals and those by the testers.
There were a lot of black and white photos and the quality and the sensitivity were no less than DSLR. One thing that was lacking is that maybe because I was there at a weekday afternoon, there weren’t a lot of people. But I was able to enjoy the exhibition at a leisurely pace.
Two pictures were the most memorable. One is a picture of a woman with a bright smile, and the other is a picture of a sky. It’s been a day since I went to the exhibition but the contrast between the freshness and the tranquility still lingers.
On one side of the wall is a log from the testers. Although I don’t know the details, I can still feel their enthusiasm and excitement. If there is another event like, this I’d like to participate.
Admission is free and it’s not hard to find. I hope you can stop by and enjoy the classic beauty of Seoul.
