Rush to the Last Destination-Venice of Shanghai

Today I’m going to introduce Zhujiajiao, the so called ‘Venice of Shanghai’. Venice of the Orient, the water village Zhujiajiao is an hour and a half bus ride away from Shanghai. Water streams flow between the buildings and boats floating leisurely over the water carrying tourists. You can feel the composed atmosphere of the city here.

The cormorant show that can be seen at Zhujiajiao. Even an angler who jumps in the water at the blink of an eye and catch a fish would cry over the fishing skills of cormorant. You can’t even imagine how fast they are unless you see them for real.

The morning when I was to leave the Sun Island, the last destination of my trip. It was raining the day before so I was quite worried but the sky was clear as if it was a lie.

The Sun island is also located an hour or so away, not too far from Shanghai. The island was so clean and quiet that it made me regret not having visited here earlier. It was a place where I could find peace within me.

A cute little girl whom I met in Sun Island. Cuttie babe!!

She was playing in the water with her dad and she suddenly burst into tears. Perhaps the water went into her eyes. She was so lovely even when she was crying.

Because we had hurried ourselves in the early morning, we were able to enjoy the sandy beach and the slides before they got too crowded. The exotic beach is definitely the place to be to recharge yourself and get away from the busy life and enjoy the break. I’d like to recommend the sun that feels friendlier because it’s not too spectacular. :))

Well, I was busy pressing the camera shutter to capture the beautiful nights of Shanghai through Miss Stranger. I wanted to deliver every nook and corner and more of Shanghai but I guess my hopes were too high. It’s too bad but I’ll have to end the post here. Hope to see you again in the near future. A peep into the real Shanghaia

Today, I’m going to introduceJin Mao Tower Hyatt Hotel, which is known as the tallest hotel in the world.Jin Tao Towerhas 88 floors and the hotel is located from the 53^rdfloor to the 87^thfloor. The exterior alone is jaw dropping.

A line of taxi waiting for people coming out of the hotel. More than 90% of the taxi drivers waiting here can carry simple English conversation.

The foreign company buildings you see behind are shining with colorful lightings as if competing with Jin Mao tower for attention.

The entrance of Jin Mao Tower with an impressive exotic appearance. The blue color particularly stands out in this picture. If you apply the cool function that the camera offers to the picture, then you can increase the blue tone without the help from Photoshop

The tower is so high that when the weather is cloudy you can actually see the clouds float around outside the window and you feel like standing on the sky~!!!

The Jin Mao Tower appears to be taller in the picture because it’s at the front, but actually the World Financial Center you see behind is the highest building in Shanghai, rising higher than Oriental Pearl Tower and Jin Mao Tower.

The loud mechanical noise of repair work coming out of the construction site preparing for the Shanghai Expo next year was no exception around the Jin Mao Tower.

“ Oriental Pearl Tower “

15 minutes walk from the Jin Mao Tower.

It is no exaggeration to say that theOriental Pearl Toweris the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Shanghai. They call it the Pearl Tower, referring to the sphere that composes the architecture. Maybe Shanghai people’s pride bursts out from the Tower rising tall in the middle of Shanghai? Most of the tourists think that this tower is only used for sky lounge but it’s also used as a receiving tower for broadcasting.

I felt a bit dizzy to see it in real but I could tell why this symbolizes Shanghai after feeling its dignity. Before finish my post, I want to share this landmark on the map, especially for you guys~

A true life on antique street

The antique market I’ve visited in a while was very peaceful.

At an alley of the antique market, shop owners were playing chess as if to overcome the boredom.

This market is in 10 minute walking distance from Xintiandi which was introduced in the previous post.(Post 4: This is Xintiandi,where every corner feels different) Unlike the exotic appearance of Xintiandi, the antique market bares the life of the working class Chinese people.

I took this picture unintentionally when I was passing by but when I saw it again at home, the photo was effectively expressing the distance. The power of wide-angle lens!

The two cute girls had an impressive command of Chinese!!! The funny thing was that the shop owner was speaking in English and the foreign customers were speaking in Chinese.

Things you have to keep in mind when visiting the antique market in China.

An antique market does not necessarily mean everything is antique. For visual effect, the store owners don’t brush away the dust, they make scratches or let the good get rusty deliberately. Millions of tricks are used here. If they think you are a foreigner, they might try to rip you off and sometimes there are nasty owners who will yell and say bad things to you and ask for money for touching things that you won’t buy. So be careful!!! :[

I also had to bear some bad mouthing that I do not even dare repeating for taking pictures. Maybe because the weather is hot and the business is not going so well. But of course, not everyone is like that. There are a lot more friendly owners who will welcome you with a smile and kindly explain and help out.

A regular house located in the middle of the market.

It was around dinner time so I could smell the food coming out the window.

Poor houses with cracked walls and broken windows standing in vivid contrast to the high rises not far away. And the store you see in the picture where a woman is sitting down sells fake belts and watches. Meanwhile, the opposite side of the road is lined with sophisticated and clean buildings… fake goods in line with the antiques… A familiar sight of China’s irony.

Simply enjoying the store display may be a better idea than trying to buy something here.

A different aspect of Shanghai always portrayed as the spectacular neon-sign surrounded city.

I’ve seen a lot of relaxed people particularly around this area, so I was able to experience the manmandi (慢慢的) nature of the Chinese people.

Dong tai road antique market is a place with a subtle allure, where you can escape from the busy life of Shanghai.
