“Mom! I want to see fire flies! Where does the fire fly lives at?? What do they feed on??”

Chan Hee has so much to ask looking at his insect encyclopedia.

Although there were precise descriptions in the book, he said he want to see the fire fly for real and he suggested me to visit the fire fly park.

I was quite attracted to his suggestion as I was born and lived in Seoul; I never saw the fire fly too.

Fire fly is called ‘Gae-Ddong-Beol Rae’ in pure Korean.

After I have understood the location, we planned to depart on Friday when Chan Hee’s lesson finishes early. We departed around 5o’clock as we will see the fire fly only after the sunset.

We packed our snacks, fruits and mosquito spray to avoid the mosquitoes.

Chan Hee and Jun Hee looked very excited.

They keep on reading their insect encyclopedia inspecting the fire fly.

I was really proud!! They looked lovely!!

Jun Hee was also interested of the book his brother was ‘so’ into it. Jun Hee can understand the pictures only.

The weather was very clear and helped our trip.

I took the picture of this clear sky in the car.

Malaysia’s sky is really gorgeous. The sky boasts its different color mood every second.

We went over the Batu Cave and straight following the milestone (54 highway), turn right on 33 highway and straight…

Although we have not yet saw the fire fly, the scenery was really artistic.

The tea farm reminded me of Bo Seoung Tea field and Malaysian grave which really inspired me.

After we drove 2 hours from K.L, we reached the fire fly park.

The sun hasn’t set so the children played in the playground and my husband (who loves to take pictures) was busy taking the scenery into the camera. I got ready the snacks upon my family.

We were happy while waiting the sun to set.

‘Mommy, when can I see the fire fly??’ Jun Hee continuously asked me.

Finally a person sits on the counter. The loan fee for the boat was RM40/ 4 people in a boat.

After we equipped ourselves with life jacket we got on the boat.

The boatman kindly explained us the place. We were scared to depend our life on the old boat, but after we saw the tree of fire flies, we were amazed.

Chan Hee and Jun Hee were amazed and kept their eyes fixed.

The boatman stopped the boat where there were most fire flies and left the fire fly on their hand.

They were afraid at first, but it was only a moment. They asked the boatman for more.

The fire fly blinking its body in signal for love was really pretty.

The boatman said the day was best conditioned to see the fire fly. The moon light was weak and the river was full.

The beauty of the light by the fire fly in the darkness gave our family happiness.

On the way home, we ate roti and nasi goreng and still we were happy because I had a family to be together.

[Review] Jack of all trades – Samsung IT100: Appearance

Samsung IT100 pursues an intelligent compact digital camera by the name, and supports 12.2M pixels and 5x optical zoom, so this is a small but strong camera. Especially, it can also record HD video (1280x720 / 30fps) reflecting the UCC boom. It also has a Smart shot function for beginners, so it s such a Jack of all trades.

Basic package

It s a basic package, doesn t include a memory card, and instead it has 78MB internal memory, so you can use this at the moment of replacing a battery or backing up a memory on other devices. These are Camera body / Battery / Strap / AV output cable / USB cable / Charge adaptor / Program CD / Manual / Warranty card.

Connecting the charge adaptor

The first thing we look at is the charge cable. There s no separate battery charger, but you can connect a cable on the body to charge, and this cable structure is so useful.

Disconnecting the charge adaptor

When disconnecting the adaptor, you can find the USB port. The charge adaptor changes the power to USB power, and this can be connected to every USB, so you can use this not only for digital camera charge, but also other devices. Personally, this is the item I like the most from the IT100. (Adaptor output: 4.4V / 400mA) Of course, this cable is also used as a data cable, so you can move pictures and videos by connecting this to a PC and print out pictures by connecting to a printer supporting the PictBridge.

AV output cable

The IT100 originally supports the HDMI output for HDTV connection, because it supports the HD video recording function. However, this can t be done only with the camera, but with a separate cradle, so provided cable is composite cable and has video (Yellow) / mono sound (White). The thing I don t like is the basically provided AV cable only supports mono sound, although the IT100 supports stereo sound recording.

Battery and Memory card slot

The slot for battery and memory card is located on the same place toward the bottom, so there s a latch for battery.

Battery insertion

The battery of the IT100 is Li-Ion battery and has 3.7V / 1050mA 3.8Wh. For your reference, the Li-Ion battery doesn t require complete charge/discharge different from former Ni-Cd battery. The complete charge/discharge rather harm the Li-Ion battery, so you have to be careful.

Memory card insertion

On the right side of the memory card, you can see the latch for battery. The IT100 supports SD, MMC/SD, and SDHC. (Max. 4GB for SD, 8GB for SDHC are guaranteed. This can recognize bigger capacity, but that s not guaranteed by manufacturer.)

Front of the IT100

On the front, there s lens, flash, AF (Self timer lamp), and remote controller sensor. Especially the AF is useful under the dark place. Different from other Samsung digital camera adopting the Schneider lens, this hasn t adopted the Schneider lens, but the former Schneider lens was made by Samsung, so even though there s no Schneider mark, but it will be still good, I expect. This has 28~140mm FOV on 30mm (5~25mm on display) and this includes both wide and tele angles. As a compact camera, this angle seems quite good, and allows various useful functions. The iris starts from F3.4, and getting tele, the F value gets larger, so F5.8 becomes the minimum F value. This can be weakness, and I m not satisfied that it doesn t started from F2.8 and the minimum F value is too high.

Back of the IT100

The most impressive thing is the 3 inch wide display. It s 230K LCD and protection panel on the LCD becomes a part of the LCD. But it has a possibility of dust between the LCD and the protection panel due to the space between them. I hope the Customer service of Samsung considers this. As the display is wide, it gives cool feeing, and the response is relatively fast, so I couldn t feel big inconvenience. Every control button is located on the right and they are control lever (Magnification-Contraction/Volume Control) / Shot mode dial / Menu button / Direct option button (Way button) / Play button / Function button (Delete button) from the upper side. One thing I m not satisfied with from the zoom lever is that the zoom lever doesn t have up/down movement, because a lot of controls in the IT100 is based on up/down movement. It kept bothering me when taking pictures.

The LCD is TN panel which is used much for monitors. As a feature, it has fast response while having narrow viewing angle, so when especially looking at from the bottom, the color is reversed and getting dark. On the other hand, from the top, it gets brighter and from left or right, there s no special change.

Top of the IT100

From the right side, shutter / power button / Microphone (Right) / Speaker / Microphone (Left) are located. Especially, the stereo microphone is its own feature, and I can give high grade on this, because it makes stereo sound recording possible as a compact digital camera not a camcorder. When recording a video, I was surprised at the perfect stereo recording.

Samsung digital camera using the brand name VLUU expresses its brand with the blue LED. Due to the image, it s a little light blue, but actually it s deep blue.

Bottom of the IT100

There s a cover for battery/memory card, and in the center, tripod hole and USB/AV output port are located. Through the output port, you can connect USB and AV cable, and especially you can use a cradle which is separately sold.

IT100 strap ring

There s a strap ring for the strap. This is separately formed, so it gives a little change for design and when holding it, it plays a role of grip. Because it s so small and neat, the grip might be unsatisfactory, but this consideration makes better shots. But personally, it s better if it was slightly bigger.

Lens of the IT100

When turning it on, the lens barrel comes out. The picture is the basic status which is not zoomed. (28mm FOV on 35mm)

Change of lens barrel to maximum telephoto zoom

Due to optical 5x zoom, the barrel comes out quite much for maximum telephoto zoom. Because it s not inner zoom type, it s natural, and you need to be careful of the barrel.

We ve been looking at the appearance of the IT100. In the next review, we are going to look at what functions the camera has and the performance.

Samsung IT100 review – Small and convenient camera (Unboxing and design)

As a DSLR user, I ve felt a burden of the body and additional lens, so I ve tried to find my second camera. At that moment, I become a tester for the Samsung IT100, so I ve got a chance to use and review the new camera. However, if you have an experience of a second camera, you already knew that you would forget what the second camera is. You realize that you would like to carry the small and convenient digital camera rather than DSLR, and feel sad for the DSLR staying in your home. I ve only used this for 2 days, but it was enough time to feel the convenience of shot without any burden for weight and size. I could just take this out from my bag. Detailed functions and review will be handed in the next review, and today I m going to put up a preview and comments with pictures.

When holding the box, I thought the box is very small. It might be because I haven t purchased a compact digital camera for a while. Therefore, I even talked to myself Cable, battery, and other items are optional? However, all items such as camera, cable, battery, SD memory card, hand strap, etc. are all in the small box. I will tell you about this again when reviewing, but anyway, since the IT100 supports HDMI, the cable is provided and 2GB SD memory card is also included. It comes with 4 colors such as black, silver, blue, and red. My model is red.

It could have been easier, if I had taken a comparison picture. To say easily, it s just like a cell phone size. The thickness is not that slim compared to brand new slim digital cameras, but I can understand this looking at the functions. Considering other slim digital camera supports 3x zoom, the 5x zoom IT100 is the slimmest digital camera, I think. So it s not thick at all, but other slimmer camera might make the IT100 not slim, so I left this comment. The unique thing of the front image is edited circular border for flash, and I can see they ve considered much to make a compact size digital camera.

3 inch wide LCD is located at the back. Actually, the LCD takes most of the back, so the sensory size is bigger, I suppose. Besides, it has zoom in/out button, and while most other cameras provide a left/right type zoom button, this provides up/down type. It s impressive. Below, a button to change mode/function through the circle, and menu button, change of picture location, flash, timer button, and view button to watch picture on the LCD, and bin button for delete are located. Fingerprints can easily be left on the LCD, so for your convenience you d better put the LCD protection film.

The noticeable thing of the bottom is the HDMI port. To be honest, when looking at the specification of the IT100 first, I was surprised at the HDMI and 720P video recording the most. Compared to other digital cameras which transfer videos through the component port, the IT100 supports HDMI, so this can transfer videos as a digital without any loss. Besides, tripod hole and battery/SD memory card hole are located on the bottom.

When turning this on by pushing the power button, the lens part is activated like the picture. As you can confirm this from the side, this is a bit thicker than slim design cell phones. It depends on users, but I think if this was slimmer, it might be inconvenient for me to use the function button. Especially, it could have been inconvenient, because there s nothing to hole on the top when pushing the shutter. Anyway, I m satisfied with this slimness.

Honestly, when I confirmed the colors of the IT100, I thought it might have been better if it had been blue. However, looking at the red slowly, I think the red is more characteristic and distinguished than other colors. I should have mentioned that earlier with the front, on the left there s a phrase 12.2 MEGA PIXELS with a hole for hand strap and kind of a prop for better grip.

LCD is activated. The 3 inch LCD feels very wide and cool. It feels like looking at a small PMP. With this wide LCD, not only professionals, but also normal users can easily take and confirm pictures immediately.

When I took the IT100 first, I could feel the time goes by doing something with it. Thanks to the small and compact size, this will be a precious item replacing DSLR, and I m going to spend a lot of time with the IT100 recording videos and testing functions.

[IT100 Review] Meeting an intelligent camera – Samsung IT100 unboxing

Through the fast upgrade of Samsung digital imaging, former digital cameras start to disappear and changes have been coming with new products. Finally, not pixels, but functions and prices will be the most important points of the digital camera market, I think.

Before reviewing the IT100 from Samsung for 4 weeks, I m going to preview the strong and weak point from the view point of users.

IT100 review – Unboxing and package (Written by SaeWooKang boy)

The IT100 supporting 12.2M pixels digital camera, Smart auto function, 28mm wide optical 5x zoom, HD video recording is going for an intelligent camera. When first taking the camera, the heavy image was impressive. There are 4 products such as black/gray/tomato red/dark blue in the white box, and I ve got the black one.

The size of the box is similar to the box of MP3 players from Samsung, it s optimized for carrying and present and the box is made of recycling material. On the top (front) of the box, it shows the lens and case well.

At the back, the short introduction of the product is written in 5 languages including English. That the IT100 is optimized for Vista OS and, and pictures can be developed by connecting to a printer through USB with the PictBridge is shown with the icon.

It includes IT100, install CD, warranty(English), Quick guide-English, USB cable, power adaptor jack, A/V cable, and hand strap. In the compact box, they are well located. From the moment I took the product, I could feel the perfect from the unboxing.

They are all items. Especially, the jack to connect to a power adaptor through the 24 pin USB cable is impressive and you have to read the warranty in various languages (5 languages). On the bottom, the IT100 includes USB and A/V output port and charging is also possible here. I mean through the power adaptor this can be connected to the IT100 for charge. I couldn t show you in the picture, but the metal terminal part can directly be connected to the bottom port of the IT100.

This is the part to connect USB cable and power adaptor. That you can develop pictures and transfer files through the USB cable by connecting a computer/printer is one of the strong points the IT100 has. (Charge and transfer can be done at the same time.)

The body of the IT100 is glossy and made of aluminum. Except the battery and SD card, it s 155g compact/slim size and it can appeal to women users, I guess. Especially, the optical 5x zoom 28mm wide angle lens emphasizes the whole body. Flash, AF, and self timer are located on the front, but don t seem prominent, so they are okay.

When I met the IT100, one of the most impressive things is the TFT LCD size. The IT100 has 7.62mm 3 inch screen, so you can experience the great feeling with hands and eyes. Other options can be operated through the right hand with the mode dial. 8 mode dials can be controlled with other function buttons on the lower side.

2GB Memory Card with in IT100

On the bottom of the IT100, you can put in SD card and Li-Ion battery. The Li-Ion battery is 3.7V 1050mAh (3.8Wh) and made in China. Other than SD card, MMC card can be put in and extension is limited.

The focus length is 5~25mm and on 35mm film it s 28~140mm. For a digital zoom, when taking still images, 1.0x~5.0x is possible, while playback mode, 1.0~12.5x (Depending on resolution) is supported. It s a 28mm wide product, so better than other compact digital cameras in the market.

Generally, the conjunction of lens and body is strong, for me who have used the NV10 it s satisfactory. However, fingerprints on the glossy body need continuous care. If there was a non glossy product, I could have more options, I think. When turning on the camera, I was glad to see the blue ring. (It s like I can see the NV10 here, too?)

Including the dial mode, all functions such as display, closeup, flash, timer, play and so on adopt the circular button, so the impression of the front lens can be seen from the back also. Thanks to the 3 inch wide TFT LCD, I can naturally see objects, people and scenery.

Finishing the unboxing, Memory of the NV10 is hidden in the IT100

3 years later meeting 10M pixels Samsung camera and fascinated by the blue ring in the second half of 2006, I ve met the 12.2M pixels IT100. Optical 5x zoom and 28mm wide angle excite new curiosity.
