ST1000(CL65) leads in the-state-of the art camera

clip_image001It is not easy to find a product with all three built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Recently, there is a Netbook or MID having all these functions but Samsung ST1000(CL65) must be the first in the world for a camera to have all those GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There may be people who ask what so many wireless features are for in a camera but you can try different convenient features from the ST1000(CL65)’s wireless function, which the existing digital camera could not provide. Any electronics will be the same: before use, you may say, ‘why are there too many functions’ ‘should I need all these things!’ and feel uncomfortable with a new function. However once you experience it by yourself and get used to it, there may be a lot of people who will say ‘It’s too inconvenient without it’. Although people are afraid of adapting themselves to new functions that much, it will be become pretty convenient for you once you try to use it. If you are able to enjoy yourself over a new product without being afraid of new challenges, you may approach anything more easily. It will be the same for the new functions the ST1000(CL65) provides. Today, I’ll explain the simple features of the ST1000(CL65) and what it is with as a preview.

clip_image002When you see the ST1000(CL65) the first time, you may think it is simple and neat. That is because the front of the camera is made of a metal type with hairline and the back is of a large LCD covering the whole back area. The size is compact and high quality material really stands out. You can see ‘5X’, ’12.2MEGA PIXELS’, Schneider and GPS on the front. As it is described, the ST1000(CL65) supports 12.2 M pixels, 5x digital zoom, optical lens and Schneider lens and even an onboard GPS. From the front, there is a lens first of all and next to it there is a AF-assit light/timer lamp. Then, you can see a flash and built-in GPS antenna above the flash. There is a small microphone below the flash to allow you to record your voice while taking a movie. You can, of course, set the record on or off separately. There are power and shutter buttons in a line alongside of the GPS. The power button is a small one and shooting button is rather long and also you can recognize them by a sense of touch. You will not turn it off by mistake. Nevertheless it would be better for the power button to be placed somewhere else, I guess.

clip_image003A large 3.5 inch touchscreen is largely placed on the back. There is a push/pull zoom button next to the shutter button and below it you can see a playback button to play photos or movie. You can press the playback button anytime whenever you want to see a photo or movie. The 3.5 inch touchscreen allows you to operate different features by touch. The existing product has operating buttons separately but for the ST1000(CL65), the whole back area is of LCD to have a sleek design and those buttons removed can now be controlled by the touchscreen. I was told that the rear LCD of 1.15M pixels is a 3.5 wide touchscreen adopted for the first time in the world. In addition, G-sensor is built in so that you can operate the camera by motion. Through a ‘Smart Gesture’ feature, it provides a different interface. Personally I would give more points to it because of fun rather than convenience but this may be felt differently to user.
clip_image004

In the battery slot at the bottom of the camera you can put not only a battery but also Micro SD memory. An output terminal for USB, A/V and HDMI next to it allows you to charge the camera, connect with USB, HDMI and etc. There is a tripod mount right next to the terminal.

clip_image005
At the right side of the camera, there is a hook for you to put a hand strap in so that you carry your camera safely. You can also hang an extra Micro SD memory on it too.
clip_image006

Included items are simple: camera, AC adapter/USB cable, battery, strap, A/V cable, user manual CD-ROM and quick start manual. The rechargeable adapter having a power and USB cable in one allows you to use it as USB cable at ordinary times and also for charge by connecting the adapter. However I don’t think there will be many occasions you connect the ST1000(CL65) to a computer because most of time people save data on a removable disk unless you use an internal disk. Also, you can send photos directly to your friends via Bluetooth, which will be easy and fun unless you want to print them out. You can print out photos via a photo printer supporting Bluetooth.

clip_image007

When you open the battery cover, you can put a battery and Micro SD side by side. While SD memory is a lot used for the digital camera, I think it is a good idea to use Micro SD, which can be utilized from the cell phone. You may not be worried about memories if you utilize memories for various multi-media terminals like digital camera, MP3, cell phone that provide a removable disk.

clip_image008

Some people may wonder about onboard Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth of the ST1000(CL65). I was one of them asking myself ‘why wireless LAN? The advantage of the ST1000(CL65) wireless LAN is that direct connection from camera to website is possible rather than camera-computer-website. You can upload photos taken by the ST1000(CL65) directly to a website. Not all website support this function though except YouTube, Picasa, etc. Of course, you should have your own account and log in.

Now how GPS works? As the existing digital camera used to have, shooting information is saved for you to check geographical location via website. How about this? When you look back on the past looking at photos saved in a memory after 5 or 10 years, you may want to know where such photos were taken. The ST1000(CL65)’s GPS will really stand out to this question. When you read the location information of a photo by interfacing photos with Google Map, the exact location will be shown on the map. Also, when you see a photo of famous restaurant or tourist attractions and if the photo was taken by the ST1000(CL65), you don’t have to search for location information but you can right away know it from the photo, which will be very convenient.

As for Bluetooth, there are many uses recently. The mostly used case will be transmitting data with the cell phone, I guess. Some time ago, I sent a photo taken by the ST1000(CL65) to a friend who liked it via cell phone. Connecting was easy and speed was fast so I thought I would often use this feature. However good a function may be, people are not likely to use it if it is difficult to use and inefficient.

clip_image009
In addition to this function, Gesture UI via touchscreen is impressive. You may have imagined a lot like this: when you mark ‘X’ on touchscreen, the file is deleted and that you draw a circle to your right, the screen rotates. It is possible with the ST1000(CL65). Furthermore, as you can operate different features not by touch but only by tilting the camera from side to side and upward and downward while pressing Gesture UI icon utilized by G-sensor, it is a fascinating new technology for people who want easy and fun features.

There are many different digital products of various functions and technologies. Among them, the ST1000(CL65) is a leading product in the state-of-the art digital performance because it has not one not two even four wireless technologies. Thank you for your time in reading my simple preview for the ST1000(CL65) reaching for new line out of DSLR. Let me get back to you with more detailed experience review next time as there are so many things I want to share with you considering so many different features of the ST1000(CL65)

All-purpose digital camera, ST1000(CL65) supporting GPS and even Wi-Fi with the small size

The newly released compact digital camera ST1000(CL65) from Samsung is a digital camera having satisfactory functions as a portable camera of the great performance, a variety of features and handheld size. This small size allows men and women of all ages to easily use it and the weight is rather light accordingly. There are also a lot of features competing with the features of a high-class digital camera. Let’s look into the ST1000(CL65) with priority given to the appearance.clip_image001

You can see a couple of characters written on the front of the ST1000(CL65). First of all, it supports 12.2 M pixels and 5x optical zoom and adopted Schneider lens. And more than that, the mark ‘GPS’ really stands out. That is, it has capability to record a location of a photo taken with GPS on. In addition, the lens is not protruding but inner one, which shows the design was paid a careful attention to. clip_image002

The back is just as simple as it. There is nothing but a large 3-inch touchscreen. Since the LCD is a touchscreen, all menus are selected on the touchscreen. You can also see ‘Wi-Fi’ on the top, which is a little bit unfamiliar with as the GPS on the front to a digital camera. The ST1000(CL65) allows you to use the wireless internet through Wi-Fi. It does not mean though that you can actually navigate the internet with the ST1000(CL65). I’ll tell you next time but it provides a variety of conveniences using the wireless internet.clip_image003

Let’s look at the top now. With the model name of the ST1000(CL65), there are power, shutter and zoom buttons and also a playback button. The red sensor on the top is the GPS receiving part that receives GPS signal.clip_image004

clip_image005

On the base side, there is a socket for charge ant battery slot where you can also put a memory card, too. A tripod mount is placed. You don’t have to worry about the label saying marketing sample. clip_image006

Differently from other digital cameras, the ST1000(CL65) uses MicroSD card. Other digital cameras generally use SD card but the ST1000(CL65) adopted MicroSD card considering the size and design, I guess. Yet, MicroSD is also of 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16GB so tha you can choose one of them to your use. clip_image007

As I briefly mentioned above, all the menus of the ST1000(CL65) can be selected on the touchscreen. You can operate them like above via the rear touchscreen when the power is on. Each icon explains the status of the ST1000(CL65) now but also it has a function as a button itself so that you can touch an icon to select features concerned. Whether Wi-Fi, GPS and etc. are activated can be checked here.

The one of the strengths the ST1000(CL65) has is the small size and light weight so that women can carry in their bag or pocket. Furthermore, it has so many features strangely to such a small size. It supports GPS allowing you to find a location of a photo taken, Wi-Fi enabling to send photos via wireless internet, even Bluetooth and DLNA communication. Although it has an inner zoom, it supports 12.2 M pixels and 5x optical zoom and also Schneider lens. Every attractive element is all with the ST1000(CL65).

I’ll give you more detailed explanation next time. How many features the ST1000(CL65) has can be found after you actually use it. I think I can help you to know this product once I dig into it.clip_image008

ST1000(CL65) dreaming of communicating with the world

The Samsung digital imaging released an outstanding compact digital camera. This is not a digital camera merely taking a picture and recording a movie but the one that dreams about communicating with the world.
Digital Camera ST1000(CL65) dreaming of communicating with the world
clip_image001I could see the camera a little bit earlier than anyone else as a photographer of the Samsung digital imaging since last WB500(HZ10W). (this is only the second time though) The camera I received is a special engineering sample.
I’ll explain the ST1000(CL65) laying stress on its look for this first time.
clip_image002The splendid figure put in my hand…
For your information, only black red and silver blue of the ST1000(CL65) are available in Korea so please let there be no misunderstanding about this black color. As it sold in the world, the color can be varied as each country’s character
The detailed look of the ST1000(CL65)clip_image003The ST1000(CL65) of 12.2 M pixels supports 5x optical zoom.
While the inner zoom gives rather neat look because of the lens barrel not projecting, it is inconvenient on the other hand. It is because it provides a mediocre angle of view of 35mm due to the limits of the inner zoom as compared with recent Samsung cameras’ line providing wide-angle photos. I feel a little sorry for it while the style became better.
clip_image004Let’s look at it more in detail. The first thing you can see right away is the GPS receiving part. Thanks to this, the ST1000(CL65) allows you to remember where you took a photo. If you wish, you can check which city you took a photo by turning GPS on.
The operating part side to it is made up very simple. Isn’t it a true trait of the compact size?
clip_image005Next to the power button are there shutter and zoom buttons. The buttons are generally small but there would be no problem unless you operate them by mistake with an adult’s hand. Below that, you can find a lamp to be turned on when the wireless LAN is on and playback button for you to check photos taken. That is all for the buttons.
clip_image006Samsung’s famous Haptic UI is applied to the large touchscreen of 3.5-inch LCD.
Not only a touch but also G-sensor is applied so that you can change modes only by tilting the camera. It must be taking some time to get used to this kind of new motion but once you do, it will be an easy function. I cannot know it for sure now because I just received it.
clip_image007The bottom side is like this. On the left of the port that connects it to the computer and for charge, there is a slot to for tripod mount and on the right of it, you can insert a battery and memory card.
clip_image008What is interesting is that the memory the ST1000(CL65) supports is not a general SD but MicroSD. As the cell phone and etc. is trying to open the MicroSD market, niche MicroSD may be led by the ST1000(CL65). In reverse, there is familiarity with the cell phone.
Detailed experience reviews will be given next time.clip_image009Well, that is all for now.
I have not had enough time to use this camera but this coming fall, I will have many opportunities to visit the sea and take a lot of pictures. I’ll give you more live stories at that time.
Finally, I’ll close my story with a movie preview about the ST1000(CL65).
