Farewell In New York

Hello, everyone. How have you been? Hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather.

I went to NY with my mama 2 weeks ago. It would’ve been really nice if it were sunny.

Before we leaf home, my mama had to clean the house. It was so messy. My mama didn’t agree with me putting a picture of her messy house on this site but in this picture, you still see it. You have to promise that you won’t tell her about his picture :)

We made it to Moma(The Museum of Mordern Art) and loved it! Tim Burton’s show was on so we could see it but no pictures were allowed there(Tim Burton’s show). Boooo- I think this blue ballon was his work :)

We had lunch at the restaurant in MoMA. The food was great. Alex was checking something with his awesome cell phone while my mama was taking tons of picture :)

For dinner, we went to Ninja New York. It’s Ninja style restaurant.

It was the best part of this trip I think. Some Ninja waiters said I was creeping them out.

I told them that they’d better be strong!!!

And… I can not believe this is my last blog today. I hope you enjoyed my blog and I’m truely sorry that I’ve been lazy. It was really nice to meet you all. I hope to get to see you later :)

I miss you already!!

Winter Wonderland, Highland

Highland, literally, means the north of Scotland, the high areas. I decided to take a one day tour of Highland through a Highland tour company. The tour bus driver said that Highland bus tour course is one of the greatest one day tour courses in Europe. This tour is a 12 hour tour which leaves Edinburgh at 8 o’clock in the morning and returns at 8 o’clock in the evening. But to see the famous beautiful snowy landscape of Highland I’ve decided to endure that much.

Before arriving at Highland, the bus stopped for a moment for a photo time. I was asleep on the way and when I opened my eyes, a jaw dropping scenery spread before my eyes. The snowy scenery of Scotland, with many rocky mountains, was really unique. The clear color of the sky and snowy landscape of the rocky mountain were harmonious and marvelous that even looking at it directly it makes you wonder whether you’re looking at a picture.

At last we arrived at the town with Loch Ness, the highlight of Highland tour. The scenery of the town which was surrounded by the snowy mountains and lake deep as the sea was breathtaking. As soon as I arrived at the town the first thing that captured my eye was the boat dock. The boat you see in the picture is the boat I’m going to ride to see the Loch Less.

Finally, I’m on the boat. Let’s go! Loch Less is the biggest and the deepest lake in UK with 36km in length and 230m in depth. The Loch Less seen from the boat didn’t look like a lake but seemed more like the sea. The water is too deep that the color of the water was black and you couldn’t see the end of Loch Less.

Because of its enormous size, there are a lot of rumor saying that there’ a monster living inside. I just laughed when I heard that rumor but to see the real Loch Less it made me think there could be a real monster inside. The size of Loch Less was overwhelming and it was enough to stimulate the imaginations of numerous tourists.

While I was observing the scenery through the windows of the boat, I found this cute monster attached to the window. I took a picture of this cute monster and it seemed like the real monster living in Loch Less. And at the entrance of the town, there stands a big structure which embodies the monster. If there was a monster, they imagined it would look like it but to me eyes it just looked cute. The name of the monster is ‘Nessi’. How can it not be cute?

On the bus ride back to Edinburgh after seeing Loch Less, once again we had photo time. And there, we met children playing riding sleds. There are many hills in Highland that it seemed like if you just come out with a sled you can ride sleds everywhere. The snowy scenery of Highland seen behind the joyful family makes you admire
once again.

After ending a few days of travel to Edinburgh and Highland, lastly I wrote a letter on a card to my family which I bought as a souvenir. The drawing of the cow on the card is the Highland cow which lives in Highland, and the fur attached to the card is the real fur of Highland cow. Whether it’s true or not, goodbye for now!

We had some crazy snow here in December.

It snowed only on the weekend.

We’ve been praying that we would like to get some snow on the weekdays.

If it snows a lot on the weekdays, my mama doesn’t have to deal with going to work or school.

We all hope that it would happen soon!!

New year in Edinburgh

SAM_4219

Hello, Twenty Ten! To celebrate the new year 2010, I went on a trip to Scotland that I’d been looking forward for so long. In Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, they have the ‘Hogmany festival’ at New year’s Eve which is one of the most celebrated winter and new year festivals in Europe.

Edinburgh isn’t a big city and the streets aren’t so complicated so you can fully enjoy the city by walking around. There were 2 things that surprised me when I arrived at Edinburgh. One was the pile of snow which you can hardly find in Britain and the other is the freezing cold weather; no wonder why there was such massive snow! But thankfully the sky was very clear and pretty that made me feel fresh while I was walking round.

When you walk along Prince Street which separates the old and new town of Edinburgh, you’ll spot the giant eye-catching architecture burnt like black color. It’s the Scott’s Monument. They say that there are many mountains that consist of rocks in Scotland. Different from Britain where houses are built with bricks, buildings in Scotland are built of rocks dug out from the mountains. These architectures made out of rock seem to play a part in the antique and classical atmosphere of Edinburgh.

The whole city was hustle and bustle getting ready for the Hogmany festival. The concert stage was installed with the Edinburgh castle as the background, and over a background of thousand years old town buildings various rides and ice rink were available. The harmony between unharmonious things seemed very attractive.

When I was walking down Royal Mile crowded with most of the tourist sights, I was able to run into a couple of street artists. Especially, the man who is taking pictures with the tourists dressed like Mel Gibson from Brave Heart wearing the traditional Scottish costume is a celebrity at Royal Miles. Despite the cold weather, he was wearing a tartan skirt and was posing with a loud roar each time he was taking a picture with the tourists. I could tell how much he prides and loves Scotland from his passionate behavior.

Among many things that represent Scotland, probably the check pattern is the most known. You can easily find souvenir shops that sell items with check patterns anywhere in Edinburgh. From 100% cashmere clothing and accessories to mugs, dolls etc… it seemed like everything you can make with check pattern was gathered. Even a cute dog with tartan check outfit!

80,000 people were waiting for the new year’s countdown dancing and singing along with the DJ. As if the whole city were a club, it was the moment when excitement was at a peak with the festive fever and excitement for the new year regardless of age and nationality.

At Royal mile, as seen from the picture above, the giant candle became a chandelier and lit up the sky. Freezing tourists gathered around the candle to warm their frozen hands and feet.

In Scotland, you can find tradition and people who proudly live the tradition. Following the tradition is their everyday life and something ordinary for them. I guess this is the reason why every year tourists flood to Scotland and Edinburgh and return home impressed, promising to visit again.
