LA, BABY! LA!

After roughly 2 months, I was given the chance to enjoy my first ever spring-break. IN THE U.S.! Maybe that’s nothing worth mentioning in Western countries, however, those kind of holidays are unknown to Koreans, so it was special to ME.

Anyways, so I was sitting around with a couple of friends, and we came up with a plan to do a small road trip across the States, with stops in Cali, Vegas and Grand Canyon.
Oh dear, when I knew that I was the one, driving +50 hours, believe me, I’d have decided stay at my pretty tiny dorm.

LOS ANGELES! HOLLYWOOD, CELEBS, BEACH AND KOBE BRYANT!

First stop, L.A.!

What comes across your mind, when someone mentions L.A.?

Celebrities? YES
Ultra hot chicks? YES

KB24? HELL YEAH!

And I saw, none of them. However, what I saw, were reasons enough to believe that it ain’t a wonder, why everyone wants to live in L.A.

My Love the Jumping Prince Gapdol~

The warm spring is coming close.
Like the spring that comes around every year I hope that the light of hope comes to our animals regularly as well. On this post, I want to introduce Gapdol who seems to be flying around every day.
We call people who bring the animals in to raise them rashly without thinking about their own condition, neglecting them in poor conditions, animal hoarders. Gapdol is one of the eight that we rescued from an animal hoarder’s place.

When we arrived at the animal hoarder’s house Gapdol was tied in a place where there was a plank up that sheltered all the light.

Gapdol, who was a stranger to warm caring guarded himself from us at first and refused us coming closer than within a meter.

We also didn’t get anxious trying to win this heart over.

We talked to him sweetly every day for a month making eye contact.

We told him that he was safe now, and that we love him so much.

My first trip to the U.S.

Hello dear readers of this blog,

I actually got the opportunity to work for this blog, and I wanted to briefly introduce myself to all of you. My name is YJ, I’m 24 years and I’m currently studying business administrator at a well-known Korean university, however I agreed to attend classes at the Tennessee Technology University in the States for the next 6 months.

Basically, I’m going to blog about the campus life from the views of a foreign student. I will also travel as much as possible; therefore I hope I can provide some quality posts to all of you.

Thank you, and let me start with my first post, which is about my departure from Korea, missing my flight to the first week in the United States of America and the Tennessee University.

To keep it short and sweet, it was a mess. I missed my flight in Washington. So I was stuck at the airport, and I had to sleep a day at the airport. Nothing special, heh? But no one was around, and since this is my first time in the States, it wasn’t easy to adapt to a new communicational culture.

Finally arrived in Tennessee. This is me posing in front of the entrance. Until then, the weather was good. Please pay attention to the “UNTIL THEN”.

First bowling party with my dorm-buds. It felt great, and that was actually the first time I realized “Hey, this feels like America.”

Remember the “UNTIL THEN”-phrase in the second picture? Well, during the first week I also had the chance to experience my first “Tornando”-warning. It felt weird tho.

The thing after the Tornado warning was, all of sudden the weather switched from “SUPER BAD” to “PRETTY GOOD”, after we were told that we’re allowed to move to our rooms again.

My first ever Basketball game. Before I moved to the States, I read a lot of about the sports culture at American universities, and, to be honest, it was great.

Fur, really need?

It’s one terribly cold winter with frozen fingers.
But isn’t it a good world to live in?
It’s not like the old times when we didn’t have enough resources, so we can fight through the cold if we wanted to.
So I’m about to talk about fur today.

One fur coat. This is the lives of 100 chinchillas.
One fur coat. This is the lives of 45 foxes.
One fur coat. This is the lives of 200 minks.

400million animals are being sacrificed for fur coats every year worldwide, and out of them 300million are through rearing and 100million are through captivation.

The most noted animals used for fur coats are minks and foxes.
Also, starting from luxuries such as martens also known as sables and cuticles that are made from the fetus of sheep to chinchillas, hamsters, raccoons, rabbits, dogs and cats that are raised at home, etc., there’re nearly 220 kinds of animals that are sacrificed in the fur business just for the satisfaction of people.

The animal liberty regiment goes out on street campaigns for the animals that are being sacrificed for fur every year. This year, it took place on the subway and in front of department stores where there is a huge crowd.

The fact that our attention can decrease the animals those are to be killed due to cruel acts,

decrease the people wearing fur by informing them with the reality of it-
it is the calling that we were given to establish a society that respects life.

Samsung announces two new compact cameras for easy and simple use

Seoul, Korea - July 14, 2009 – Samsung Digital Imaging Company today extended its PL-Series of easy-to-use, compact digital cameras with the introduction of the new PL70 and PL55. Offering 12.2 mega-pixels, 5x optical zooms and eye-catching style, the new PL70 and PL55 are the perfect cameras for consumers looking to capture all those important memories with easy and simple use.

“These are two of the most full-featured compact digital cameras on the market,” said Choong Hyun Hwang, vice president of Strategic Marketing at Samsung Digital Imaging Company. “Typically, consumers may feel like they have to sacrifice functionality in order to find a digital camera priced within their means, but that’s not the case with the new PL70 and PL55. Samsung is giving consumers the ability to experience the latest and most advanced digital imaging technology, helping them step up to a more robust, feature-packed camera which will help take their photography to a whole new level.”

With the PL70, users have access to a 28mm wide angle lens, while the PL55 offers a standard 35mm lens. The PL70 and PL55 offer powerful 5x optical zooms and are each paired with image stabilization to help reduce blur caused by hand movements. The PL70 offers Dual Image Stabilization, which combines both optical and digital stabilization technology. The PL55 features Digital Image Stabilization. Users can also frame their shots and review their images on the cameras’ large LCD screens. The PL70 features a 3.0 inch LCD and the PL55 features a 2.7 inch LCD.

The PL70 and PL55 incorporate a host of intuitive and smart features which simplify how users take and view their photos. Both cameras include Samsung’s Smart Auto shooting mode, an advanced setting which automatically chooses from one of the cameras’ 11 scene modes, to produce the best possible image. When finished taking photos, the PL70 and PL55 feature Smart Album, a useful tool that allows users to easily search for a specific image they have saved on their memory card. Smart Album automatically organizes the user’s digital images and gives them the ability to narrow their search based on specific criteria such as the date or week the image was taken, the overall color tone, portraits or specific file types, including photos, videos, or voice memos.

The PL70 features advanced Face Recognition technology that automatically stores up to 10 preferred faces to the cameras’ internal memory. While taking a portrait, the PL70 will automatically recognize if one of the user’s preferred faces is in the frame and identify them as a priority for focus and exposure. Users can also save time sorting through their photos and instead search for photos that contain a specific face up to 15. Samsung’s Perfect Portrait System can also be found on the new PL70 and PL55, which includes Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection and Samsung’s Beauty Shot.

The new PL70 and PL55 offer consumers advanced video recording options. With the PL70, users can record 720p, high-definition video which can be played on an HDTV through an optional HDMI adaptor sold separately. The camera also utilizes H.264 compression, an advanced codec that allows users to record video for longer periods of time. The PL55 features high-quality MJPEG video recording at a resolution of 640×480.
